You’ve decided to move to the Eugene area but you’d like a bit of a different feel? Today we are taking a look at Springfield, Oregon.
The town of Springfield is just on the other side of I-5 and is a great alternative to living in Eugene. Springfield shares many of the great qualities that Eugene has but with a slightly different feel to it.
As I write this message in March of 2024, Springfield has just under 65,000 people which gives it more of a small-town vibe than its sister city to the west. With fewer residents comes less traffic and an ease of commuting that definitely has its bonuses. The town is also bordered by both the Willamette and the McKenzie Rivers which adds to its beauty.
The median home sales price for the last six months in Springfield is $404,250 as compared to Eugene’s median price of $445,000. You definitely get more for your money in Springfield. From homes built in the early 1900s in the Washburne District to newer construction in the Mountaingate area, and everything in between, there’s something for everyone in Springfield.
Springfield is home to several local businesses, including restaurants, bars, retail stores, and more. They are also home to the Gateway Mall and larger businesses including Wayfair.
Springfield is also home to the two hospitals in the area (Riverbend and McKenzie Willamette).
There are a number of beautiful parks in the Willamalane Parks and Recreation District including the Thurston Hills trail system that has miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, Dorris Ranch with its picturesque orchards, and the combined Bob Keefer Center & Les Schwab Sports Park that hosts sporting events for the entire family.
Springfield is also home to the Simpsons and boasts some of the coolest murals around with the Simpsons characters front and center. There is other great street art in the area along with a map that outlines the many hidden murals to look for in a walking tour.
There is a real community feel in Springfield that makes it a great place to call home near Eugene. I hope you found this information helpful. I’d love to hear from you. You can call, email, or leave a comment down below. I work hard to stay connected.
